PRACTICE
Hi, I'm Xavier Kania, a graphic design and computer science student at UIC. This portfolio showcases my graphic design and photography work. My practice revolves around iteration and research. My goal is to share my ideas anywhere in the graphic design, UI/UX, or computer world.
With a background in computer science, I have the foundation to adapt quickly with a continually evolving technological market. This also informs my designs, and I am able to consider developer and designer roles when working in a team setting. My design background informs all of my work, usability is never an afterthought when making something visually appealing. And although my photography work started as just a hobby, it has not only heavily influenced my personal design preferences, but also trained my eye to understand the successful and unsuccessful in various visual contexts.
Ultimately, my practice is about carefully balancing my design values and applying that towards my work. Whether it's form versus function, or creativity versus logic, I want to create projects that have a basis in research, trial and error, and create a meaningful impact.

SKILLS
During my time designing at UIC I have learned several different forms of design. Throughout my coursework and personal projects I have become familiar with poster design, UI/UX design for web and mobile applications, mockup design, product photography, and other various forms of print.
These various projects required a large variety of tools, meaning I have extensive experience with design software such as: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Adobe AfterEffects, Adobe Lightroom, Figma, and Webflow.
My computer science background also gave me exposure to several languages including: Java, HTML, C/C++, C#, F#, JavaScript, Python, Go, and SQL.
