BlockABloom
BlockABloom's mission is to create a space for citizen scientists to learn and report local harmful algal blooms (HABs). This app is being created in teams at UIC and Osfalia University. My role as a graphic designer was to create posters/business cards to help establish a brand identity and prioritize community outreach, and UI/UX design for an AI component of the app. Our goal is to create an AI-based chat buddy that simplifies water sustainability, making it more engaging, educational, and community-driven. The AI will guide users in collecting water-quality data through user-submitted photos, interactive maps, and tailored prompts, while keeping the process supportive rather than overwhelming. By combining this with gamified rewards, personalized challenges, and clear signifiers, the experience will both motivate contributions and build a shared crowdsourced database. Other important functionality includes highlighting trends, suggesting relevant actions, and connecting users with others facing similar water issues all to create a cohesive, intuitive platform that empowers individuals without replacing their role in environmental safekeeping. Maintaining the established visual style was another core principle in informing design decisions. Development is ongoing and more additions will be made to this page soon.
